Mac printing to Ricoh MP C3003

Hi all

I have been asked to look at why a Mac Book running High Sierra Version 10.13.6 won't print to the Ricoh printer

The printer does NOT havethe optional PS module installed - and as this is the only device that has a problem they are not willing to invest in it. There is apparently another mac (no idea what type) that works fine but I have no idea where it is or who uses it. Yes - I know - it is a bit chaotic here.

 

anyway - as far as I can see it is trying to send PS files to the printer so the printer can't print it

 

ANy ideas would help as I can only get hold of the Mac for a short time every week!

I think you have nailed on the head there! Mac OS uses Postscript to print if your printer does not have PS then it can't print.

 

WE have 8 Ricoh C3003 MFDs and approx 150 Mac OS clients and all print fine (the MFDs have Postscript)

Yep, I believe the Ricoh Mac driver is PostScript. We had MP C3003s until a few months ago and never had a problem. I’m just wondering if there’s either an alternative driver that uses another language or I guess finding out how to install PS on the printer!

Problem is that this is all just for one computer - and the place is a charity so it have no money

and theMac is her personal laptop - and doesn't belong to the charity - she uses it 'cos she doesn't like windows (yes I know!!!)

 

anyway - no way they are going to spend nearly £300 just so she can print when she could easily use a windows laptop that would work fine and communicate better with everyone else!!

 

Still - I would like to get it working if only to show people that I can do stuff that the bloke in charge has tried and failed to do!!

 

I beleive that there is a way to get the Apple to send PCL printer stuff instead of PS - it seems to involve GutenPrint and maybe Ghostscript

 

any clues would be welcome 'cos it sound like a pain to me!!

Must admit I’ve not come across those, but happy to take a look at it and see if I can be of any use!

Whilst all print from a Mac starts as PS there are hundreds of non PS printers that work with MacOS. Instead of a PPD they also require a driver. Does this printer use HP PCL at all?

Thanks - I would like to get an idea of what to do before more apple stuff comes out of the woodwork - there seem to be far too many personal devices being used

 

but I can't do much as I am only a volenteer who turns up twice a week and only started a months ago - but it is becoming my problem!!

I've found this solution. It's going back a few years now and talking about Mountain Lion but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work on newer versions. Worth a try.
