cgilmour Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Hi, we've just recently started having problems with various Windows 7 laptops using HDMI extenders ( we haven't moved to 10 yet) whereby our VGA to HDMI extenders cause any screen duplicated onto a projector to keep flicking between disconnected and connected every second or so. The HDMI port is used at the laptop end and plugs into a VGA port ( on the wall) which links to the projector. This happens in various rooms. We have tried brand new connectors and it has started happening with different connectors, on several laptop makes e.g Toshiba, HP but doesn't happen if you use the extension to a normal monitor. Any ideas appreciated Cheers Chris
Zourous Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Are the connectors all the same brand? If so buy one of a different brand and try.
chazzy2501 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 if you're using the cable powered by the hdmi socket then to VGA adaptor (the adaptor takes power from the hdmi) then these are usually ok for short VGA runs but for 5+ meter VGA connections the signal is too weak. This makes the Projector see and not see the signal. Some laptops can provide more power through their HDMI than others signal losses with the VGA cables etc. Get a powered adaptor, use a VGA amplifier, or if your laptop has one a DisplayPort to VGA will work much better.
cgilmour Posted November 20, 2018 Author Posted November 20, 2018 Thanks - that sounds like the issue - Many Thanks we'll sort out something Cheers Chris
