[sims] SIMs Photo Blur on Import

Morning all,

 

I'm having an issue with photos and SIMs either blurring the photo after import or distorting the pixels / resolution. I've done some searching around and even checked with Capita who provided me with the minimum 140x180 256 colours and the maximum of 480x640 and I just can't seem to get it right unless the photo is downsized using Microsoft Office Picture Manager 2010 (which no longer exists) so I have installed this on a VM for the moment.

 

How are others taking photos for staff/students and importing them into SIMs without any distortion?

 

I'd appreciate any responses and help!

How are you importing the images? If by batch import try a manual import and see if there is any difference.

Sorry - probably should have said! The bulk of them are done via an external company at the start of each year and batch importing works for that.

 

It's the photos that are taken on site and imported manually I have an issue with, I guess there's a difference in how the photos are taken or rendered but I don't know what's different!

Make sure the photos are the correct aspect ratio before importing. Otherwise they will be stretched and blurred.

I used to have a problem with the photo metadata - SIMS used the thumbnail in the metadata rather than the photo itself. Try deleting the metadata with either photoshop or a metadata stripper utility.

This is Sharepoint Designer > Custom install choose Picture Manager 2010. (Also available in x64 as well)

Meldrew, you were right. I resized the photo and then stripped the thumbnail meta and it worked. You said you used to have this problem! How do you solve it now?

I stripped the tags using ExifTool

 

exiftool -ifd1:all= -ext jpg FILE

 

Thanks for the suggestion Banjo, but that's 2010 software too! I want to move away from that and also keep it friendly somehow for the clerical staff.
