Zourous Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Anyone know where I can get one of these? Used to have a fluke at my last place but cost a fortune.

synaesthesia Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 We have this one. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Noyafa-NF-8601W-Multi-functional-Network-Tracker/dp/B0732YDH8T it does poe testing, cable break distance ect. That looks suprisingly good. We've got a Nettest unit at the moment which is wonderful but the remotes are starting to get ropey and the tone tracer is diabolical unless all the lights are off Seems odd they make new kit with BNC on though!
glen_j Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 yeah it's pretty good although bear in mind it is made in china as such doesn't have the refinements that a fluke would but performs well and is rechargeable so no batteries required.
synaesthesia Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Can buy 5 of those for the cost of the most basic Fluke counterpart so it could easily be forgiven Would buy decent all the way if I was doing this as a profession but for doing the odd cable or fault finding from a school's POV it's silly money.
chazzy2501 Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASR-X885-Fluke-Networks-620-LAN-Cablemeter/352497823806?hash=item521281f03e:g:nu0AAOSwYxlb0v74:rk:9:pf:0 I've used this model for nearly 15 years, I have a newer linkrunner but this is still my favourite. Fast as all hell, and just does the job. cable mapping, link breaks and distance(for each wire) and live warnings! This will only test the cable not the network. (so not dhcp etc.)
Deanuk Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 You don't need any other tester than this: https://enterprise.netscout.com/network-testing/linksprinter-network-tester Pricey yes but does every test you need.
markwilfan Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 We've got one of these http://www.pockethernet.com great little gadget. Paid for itself already 3
gh5000 Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Beat me to it. Would recommend http://www.pockethernet.com too
markwilfan Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Beat me to it. Would recommend http://www.pockethernet.com tooI was a bit dubious but best thing I've bought in a long time
altecsole Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 We've got one of these http://www.pockethernet.com great little gadget. Paid for itself already Wow! That looks fantastic!
Chris_Cook Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 I've also got a pockethernet and its a really handy bit of kit. Shame it doesn't come with a toner probe included (just the tone generator), and it would be good if you could cancel a test once started, but other than that, a really great tool for the price. Anyone supporting a network should have a tool like this.
Scan099 Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Hi will the pockethernet tell you how far a break is in a cable?
