SBC as replacement for computers

The computers we currently use are now way out of warrenty and will no doubt begin failing soon. Given that staff only do web browing and playing some videos and emails i thought what would be the point in getting a full size PC. By this i mean why not use something such as the LattePanda SBC as user profiles are roaming profiles so would not need a huge amount of storage and the specs of the system should handle anything the average staff member throws at it.

Has anyone done this or looked into this type of setup.

It's all about flexibility. If you definitely won't need more local-resource hungry applications, like Adobe CC, certain Computer Science applications; as well as some loss of flexibility for things like add-in cards, then it can work. Plenty of schools running NUCs for this job - you're just dropping the hardware capability another step back.

Not to mention future proofing, would something like Chromebooks not be easier to manage and be around the same price?

You can install a PCIe card on the Latte Panda Alpha with an adapter. It might not easily fit on the back of a monitor though! 😀

I agree with @3s-gtech and @DalekSec. In most cases, you would be better off with either NUCs or Chromeboxes.
