[sims] Automated Dismissal System

Hi guys,

 

need to pick your brains. We've had SIMS for near three years now. We also have a bespoke dismissal system (works on SQL) whereby a parent/guardian swipes an access card at one of our school gates to notify the teacher that they're ready to take the child home. This is a ministry requirement at the international school I work for.

 

Thing is, the two systems are in no way integrated...

 

I was wondering if anyone had any success in writing data (attendance data) directly into SIMS from any such bespoke system or if someone might know of a best approach? I'm starting to think that a solution using MS Flow might be the best way forward. I want to be able to have an app (possibly a power app button) that the driver/carer presses in order to release the child.

 

Any ideas?

Don't think MS Flow\PowerApps would be an option. Capita and integration normally involves you paying Capita more £££. Might be worth speaking with @GREED and maybe @vikpaw.

I'll get in touch. Very annoying in a way. I've tried to look for off the shelf products that suit our needs and integrate with SIMS, but as of yet I'm at a standstill.

You could look at a system that does regular attendance using biometrics/ swipe card etc. and try to set it up in a way such that the external swipe filled in the PM Session register.

 

Unless you need this internally, it can be the indicator that a child can be released.

 

When I was there the ministry didn’t insist on pm registration but it does depend on the type of school.

 

The other way around it and much cheaper with side benefits is to speak to Salamander Software about linking your bespoke SQL DB to SIMS.

 

They linked our ID card system to SIMS at BISJ. It was a feed out of Sims but a feed the other way would also be possible. In fact you’d want SIMS to be the source data for contacts / students anyway.
