FN-GM Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 I bet someone will use them to light the comms room. The switch fails and you won't be able to see to replace it! You do a software upgrade on the switch and the lights go out. I don't think they are particle really.

Well, could this replace emergency lighting and remove the need to install 240v in the ceiling? Would it save money overall? 240v lighting is a bit silly really, no battery needs 240v to charge, no led needs it, so it's all down converted to a few volts DC anyway

There isn't with standard emergency lighting.

Edu-IT Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 Everyone? I know of at least 3 people in our school who don’t. In addition, a lot of our staff keep their phones in their lockers. For this reason, emergency lighting can be useful.

The extra cost of putting a switch and lighting circuit in for a room with say 6 lights, vs the difference in cost between 6 x $150 panels (plus data cabling, PoE switch and UPS capacity) and 6 x £30 240V LED panels... just doesn't add up. Suppose it's for the odd time where you might need to control the room lighting at a remote site, but I can't really think of any examples that couldn't be done by PIR/microwave occupancy sensor on normal 240V lighting. On the emergency lighting front, we've got quite a few corridors which have classrooms on either side - even in the middle of the day if you turn the lights out they're pitch black.

Both - two storey and no skylights on the top floor, plus the way the classroom doors open onto the corridor (sideways onto a sort of leg off the corridor) means very little light makes it through the little window in the doors.

Stick a raspberry Pi on it with the correct coding and you could have one hell of a disco Beyond the novelty of it I can’t see an economical use for this in all fairness. I applaud unifi but I would like to see them consolidating all their systems in to one console rather than have a separate console for each line of product. A simple solution to that in my opinion would have a master console that moves to each individual console.
