Projectors / Interactive Screens today poll

What is the current state of play with regards to Interaction with displays, do you have Smartboards throughout that are used just for projection, are your staff mad on using the Interactive stuff, seems to me an awful lot of places have spent alot of money on getting interactive screens/ projectors that are just used as a display, has anyone ditched the whole Interactive bit??

I've voted for both "We have Interactive Projectors/ Boards but the staff never use touch" and "We ditched interactivity and have standard projectors, TV's". We haven't bought a new interactive board in over 5 years, and around half the classrooms have an interactive board in there. Teachers are choosing to go back to a dry-marker board, which is projected on to, so that they can annotate in that fashion, as the interactivity is not required.

 

The SMARTBoards we have are over 10 years old. They don't really work anymore. Teachers don't use the functions, so school won't replace them. The only department that actively uses them is the maths department. In all my time here (maths department exempt) I have only ever seen a teacher tap the bottom corner of a SMARTBoard to move their presentation on a slide. Occasionally somebody writes on it with a pen. Inevitably, then, when they no longer align properly they just get binned.

It's funny we have Epson Short Throw Interactive Projectors at our secondary and they barely get used at all, exactly the same thing at the primary and they use them ALL the time, teaching handwriting, maths problems the whole lot.

We have a mix of interactive boards and screens, interestingly the non-interactive screens we have all have finger marks all over them suggesting they want interactivity!

The majority of our school doesn't have touch, and don't appear to be wanting it. The Maths department is the one exception, though. They have some aging SMARTBoards and use them quite a lot. I'd say the same was true in the school I worked at previously, although that's going back a few years now.

Our setup doesn't apply to any of the poll options, all have normal projectors but teachers have touch capabilities with their Surfaces

An important distinction may be between secondary and primary schools and their respective use of interactive board/screen/projector facilities (and also between departments or groups of departments within secondary)

 

[i appreciate this was a quick poll to get some idea of the data out there, but it is quite feasible that primary schools have proportionately more interactivity than secondaries based on my personal experience visiting former and teaching in latter within a single county]
