Something I was reading on the Melonfarmers last night hinted that the BBFC were cooling off on the idea of having age verification where by you sign up to a verification service with your credit card details (eg Pornhubs AgeID https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/pornhubs-ageid-age-verification-tool-unveiled-for-the-uk_uk_5a9d1efae4b0479c0254d931), and are becoming more favourable to an annonymous system (eg buying a scratch card from a news agency). In light of the Ashley Madsion hack, they think having your details stored online is a bad idea.

Governments hate anonymity, can't snoop legitimately monitor it. Companies hate anonymity, can't market to it.
