I was looking forward to a LTSC 2019, Edge and office 2019 setup but it seems I'm mistaken...

 

I wanted a no frills static windows with the edge browser (as it mostly follows ie11 queues) and an office that would last 3 plus years..

 

The LTSC is crippled, No edge and you can't have it, office 2019 has a new cryptic run, install, deploy..

 

I don't have federated services or SCCM, I don't have the resources to implement and learn these tools. I don't want gotyas every 6 months because M$ decided that 5 billion users are doing it wrong.

Office 2019 is installed in the same way as Office 365, click-to-run installer. Nothing mysterious about it.

It's been quite well documented that LTSB/C is a very bare bones version of Windows. Not sure why anyone would want to use Edge over Chrome. Just look at Chrome's market share, that in itself should speak volumes:

Whilst Office 2019 isn't as simple as double clicking an MSI, once you read the documentation, it's pretty easy to write an XML and you can find several examples in this thread. (If you're feeling lazy, click here)

 

In terms of configuration and deployment of Windows, I do it without the need for SCCM. I create an image using sysprep and deploy with WDS, built in to Windows Server.

 

You can push out Office 2019 using PDQ Deploy (which is free!) or you can simply build it in to your Windows image before you sysprep.

 

So long as you have a Windows Server domain, you can do pretty much everything you need with very little resources and just a bit of reading...

On the bright side, without Edge maybe Windows will finally accept that you want Adobe Reader as the default application for PDFs!

Chrome has huge share because they include it on all android devices (so a billion Chinese users on portable devices) hardly a worth while comparison.

 

Office 2019 doesn't (as far as I can tell) have an office customisation tool the NEW online one (for click to run) doesn't list it. on top of the ODT xml is it isn't it nonsense. I wonder if I have to sysprep this version of office:( More unknowns for the sake of M$...

I rolled a few out the other day, completely ignores my WDS settings and I have to rename the machine.. join the domain etc....

 

Probably need Server 2019 WDS which i hope woint be too long before its back out and about.

You mean the unattended.xml? Copy them in to an autounatttend.xml and try an install of the WIM from a USB\ISO.

I use dism++ to load the install.esd from the iso, edit Win10Pro it a bit, save a wim, load wim into 2012 and 2012r2 WDS, add unattend.xml (had to alter it for UEFI a bit), deploy, install everything by startup script or mostly gpo

No, there is no Office setup file at all. You need to download ODT setup file and write an XML. Once you've written the XML, you download the Office 2019 installation files (.CAB) using the command:

setup.exe /download yourfile.xml

 

And then install using:

setup.exe /configure yourfile.xml

This should get you started, copy to config.xml and run the commands as above to download and install. You could install without the download, if the files aren't present they will be downloaded from the CDN (Content Delivery Network). If you want to host the files on the network you'll need to add a path to the source in the .xml

 

 

The above relies on KMS for activation and you'll need group polices to disable First Run etc.

 

If you want to use MAK activation something like this might work
