hardtailstar Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Its that time of year again with pretty much everything Google being leaked. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/10/what-to-expect-from-googles-hardware-event-pixel-3-pixel-slate-and-more/ What's everyone looking forward too? Im interested in the Phones and the possibility of a pixel watch. Live stream will be
DalekSec Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Surprised the new pixels lack of edge to edge display, the XLs chin bar is huge!!! Bigger than my last gen samsung.
jthompson Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 My days of getting excited about Google hardware ended when the first Pixel was unveiled. They were exciting times, though. The original Nexus 7 was probably my biggest "shut up and take my money" moment.

Bigger than my last gen samsung. apparently its only 8mm which isnt that big! My original Pixel has a bigger chin. My days of getting excited about Google hardware ended when the first Pixel was unveiled. They were exciting times, though. The original Nexus 7 was probably my biggest "shut up and take my money" moment. Same, I loved the Nexus 7. I just prefer the Nexus/Pixel line of phones to anything else as I like stock Android, yes I can root phones but I cant be bothered with the hassle.
jthompson Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 I stuck with a Nexus 5 for yonks, then went for a Nokia 6. Liked the look of it, but also liked the sound of their approach to updates. On Android 8.1 with September security update. Several price brackets lower than a Pixel, but definitely feels like it fills the gap left behind by Nexus. Not a fan of digital assistants, either, which makes a lot of this hardware a no for me. Watches aside, it does feel like Google have a much more cohesive and settled line of products. Chromecast, Pixel 1/2/3 and Home seem a world away from the weird stuff like Nexus Q, different manufacturers/designs for each Nexus phone and whatever Android TV was.
Arthur Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 apparently it's only 8mm which isn't that big! My original Pixel has a bigger chin. The Pixel 3 XL is already available to buy in Hong Kong. The notch and chin doesn't look that bad IMO. the possibility of a pixel watch. No Pixel watches this year. https://twitter.com/Caitlin_McGarry/status/1035628601109086215 I think the second-gen PixelBook will be quite interesting, especially if it can dual-boot Windows 10 like the rumours suggest. The keyboard for the Pixel Slate on the other-hand looks a little silly with its rounded keys. https://chromeunboxed.com/news/pixel-slate-detachable-chromebook-stereo-speakers-pen-leaked

hardtailstar Posted October 9, 2018 Author Posted October 9, 2018 So I rang up EE to check if my upgrade is due and said I was interested in the Pixel 3. The guy confirmed there would be two phones and likely delivery date would be 1st November!

DalekSec Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 ....buy a google pixel and you get 6 months of apple music.......wat?
hardtailstar Posted October 9, 2018 Author Posted October 9, 2018 ....buy a google pixel and you get 6 months of apple music.......wat? They do that with almost all their phones. I keep getting texts to say I can get six months free with a promo code. Its like Apple dont want to make any money from it!
Arthur Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 ....buy a google pixel and you get 6 months of Apple Music.......wat? I think this is EE's offer, rather than Google's. You're right though. It would make more sense to give people 6 months of YouTube Music or Spotify instead. Edit. What hardtailstar said. I also get the same texts from EE. 1

Arthur Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 I hope Google fixes on the Pixel Slate... I seem to remember the Pixel C had really bad lag when it was first released.
hardtailstar Posted October 10, 2018 Author Posted October 10, 2018 Im torn between which Pixel to get! The stand looks good but I dont know if I can justify the price.
Arthur Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Just preordered the Pixel 3 Which colour did you go for?
hardtailstar Posted October 10, 2018 Author Posted October 10, 2018 Which colour did you go for? Just Black, Not keen on the other two colours.
hardtailstar Posted October 12, 2018 Author Posted October 12, 2018 Ordered a case for the Pixel 3 the other day and it arrived last night. My Pixel 1 fits in it so the Pixel 3 doesn't seem to be any different in size to that.
MrMat Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Ohhh shiny things! I'm rocking the Pixel 2 XL and loving it still. It's a brilliant phone. Side note, the prices these days are a little mad so I went SIM Only. 18 month interest free credit card, grab the phone outright and then signed up to Virgin for £18 a month (40GB data (which rolls over month on month so currently at 78GB), unlimited calls and texts). Saved a fortune and not stuck in a crappy 24 month contract
