VOIP External Sounder

How do you deal with phones in noisy environments ? Do you have external sounders ? Or something else ?

Our canteen staff have complained that they can't hear their phone ringing in their office

 

The only solution I have come up with is to move the phone into the food preparation area. The issue now is that they can hear it ringing but can't always hear the person speaking because the machinery they are using to so load

We use one of these in our Canteen. the little Mic sits on the telephone speaker which causes the main unit to sound when the phone rings

This is where VOIP had a few flaws over traditional analogue systems.

 

Years ago you would have multiple handsets plugged in and even call bells but now its one phone tagged for various numbers. Not sure what system you have but could it be an option to use an ATA and have a group ring that rings this with an external bell attached to it and leave the phone where it is?

I've not used one, but the Algo 8180 looks like it might do what you want.

Thanks I was looking at those, I think they need to be registered to the SIP provider

Question is does the handset work when the headset is connected

That's what I plan to find out, I think it's just a case of pressing the headset button on the handset

 

If I'd actually got my way and did the phone system in house, I would've just hacked up a cheap 2nd hand voip phone with a audio jack tapped into the speaker wires

+1 for Algo, I have 3 of them. When the phone rings I can hear it all the way down the hall.

It does need registered to the phone system as a sip device. My system an IPECS has something called personal groups, so I add the Algo's extension to a personal group with the phone. Then it rings with the phone when it is dialed.

Why is this Algo £250 though, should be more like £20

Another idea, if the system has the capability - use a soft phone on a PC and include that in a hunt group with simultaneous ring and put some large speakers on that PC

Little cable works, however the speakers I have connected to it aren't much louder than the sound coming from the phone.... - I may need a headphone amplifier

 

I can set where the ring comes from in the phone menu (Audible ringer - set to headset) On Polycom at least

I have, I get a lot of interference if I turn the volume up too high

Could do some kind of filter to remove the noise

PoE , Going to bring a small amp in from home to amplify the sound before it hits the speakers to see if that makes any difference

The algo definitely works. Doesn’t need to be registered to SIP provider. I can send you my setup if you are still considering.
