Hi,

 

We have a new system in school for house points. Pupils get a token (coin) and place it in a jar. These get counted and the winning house in announced in assembly. I am trying to find a way to make the winning house reveal better. Does anyone know of a points/scoreboard system that I can load on to an iMac that could show the score in assembly. Something fun that the pupils would enjoy?

depending on the weight of the token - link a PC up to some data collection thingy from Science to collect the weight of each jar every x mins and update it into an excel spreadsheet which automatically produces a chart which can be displayed on a board somewhere??

 

(n.b. if you do this - how long before the kids work it out and drop lead weights into the jar?)

We have a similar system, it's made me think. I wonder if you could rig something up with GPIO, some sensor and a raspberry PI to auto count hrrm

I've created similar systems to this before. The way I have gone is by using QR codes that are printed when student/class earns tokens. These QR codes are then scanned by the students using a PC/Mac via webcam that works with PHP/MySQL backend to collect results. The results can then be manipulated in any way you want. When I looked there wasn't an off the shelf solution so hacked it together over a couple of months. Was a while ago and I wouldn't be happy sharing the mess that it was, perhaps I'll give it another go if others have interest?
