So plug switch 2 into SFP+1 and switch 3 into SFP+2 on switch 1 instead of the copper connections? Would it be best to connect switch 5 SFP 1 to switch 2 SFP 1? I am new to the network game so any help is great. Thank you

Hi, I have 6 Unifi switches over 3 network cabinets. They are connected by the diagram below . Can anyone tell me if this is the best way to connect them? Internet in > BT Fibre > Juniper SRX300 (by fibre) > WatchGuard (CAT6) > Switch 1 (CAT6) > Switch 2 (CAT6) > Switch 3(CAT6). Switch 1(none POE) has Synology server, SIGMA, SIMS server and 30 iMacs connected by CAT cable. This then goes to Switch 2 from port 48. Switch 2 has APs, Security Cameras and Apple TVs. Switch 3 has VOIP. Switch 1 connects to Cabinet A over fibre from SFP1. Switch 1 connects to Cabinet B over fibre from SFP 2. Switches 4,5 and 6 have VOIP, Apple TVS etc.

Hi, Does anyone use a Synology to provide DNS and DHCP to their building? If so are they a good choice? Can you use a synology as a print server? Thank you for any help.

Hi, How do you manage WiFi access at your school/business? I currently have 3: Staff, Student and Guest. We don't really use the guest network as most people prefer to use their own 4G connection. I don't think we need 1 for staff and 1 for students. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Hi everyone, I am hoping you can provide me with some advice on Unifi kit. We currently have a Juniper SRX300 Gateway, WatchGuard M300 then 5 Unifi Switches and 20 Unifi HD APs. I like the Unifi kit and would like to move forward with it. Has anyone used the Unifi Dream Machine Pro? Would this be enough to take way the Juniper and WatchGuard? Thank you for any advice and help.

Hi, I have setup Google GSuite for the school. The staff have been using this for a while now and I would now like pupils to access this. They all have a email account with access to Drive. I am now wondering the best way to set this up for them to login and save work. My first thought was to setup a shared drive, within that create a folder for each class. Pupils would have access to their class folder containing their name. The reason I thought this was to allow staff to see their work as they cannot if saved to ‘My Drive’. Has anyone set GSuite up in a school that could help? Thank you

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice on our network. Our network is made up of servers, printers, security cameras, ipads, macs, speaker system and APs. Should any of these be on a static IP? There servers are. We have 4 subnets (.48,.49,.50,.51). .48 is for DHCP. We don't need this many. Is it worth getting rid of the last 2 subnets? or just keep them. Thank you

Hi, We are a hosted SIMS school and access SIMS through Remote Desktop (10.2.3). The Macs are running High Sierra. I am not sure why but all of a sudden the option to save to the mac or upload from the mac have disappeared. Normally I would see an option for the mac desktop. Does anyone know if there is an option to get this back on? I have attached what I see now. Thanks

Hi, Please can I have some recommendations on new switches. We currently have 3 network cabinets in school all linked by fibre. The first cabinet has 3 HP switches but I think I can get away with 2. The second and third cab both have 1. We currently have WatchGuard firewall, 22 POE security cameras, 16 POE Harmony lock down speakers, 21 POE Aerohive AP, computer suite with 30 iMacs, 104 pupil iPads across the school, 28 teaching iPads and 45 macbook laptops. I would like to change out HP switches out for POE 1GB port switches (48 port). Does any one have any recommendations. I want something that will last and give us good connections as we have just had a 200mpbs internet installed. Thank you

Hi Mike, that information is very helpful. I agree with the not needing equipment all the time! Thanks

Hi Nathan3388, thank you for the response. The newtwork does seem to be running slow. The cameras are plugged into different switches round the school. We currently have 130 iPads and 45 laptops. Normally the 90 pupil iPads will be running at the same time too. We then have 40-50 desktop machines.

Hi, We have a new system in school for house points. Pupils get a token (coin) and place it in a jar. These get counted and the winning house in announced in assembly. I am trying to find a way to make the winning house reveal better. Does anyone know of a points/scoreboard system that I can load on to an iMac that could show the score in assembly. Something fun that the pupils would enjoy? Thank you

Hi, I would like some advice on our network. We are a large primary school and have 3 network cabinets. The school was originally split. The 3 cabs are connected by fibre. The first cab has 1x HP 2620-24-PoEP Switch and 2x HP 2620-24-PoEP Switches. The second cab has 1x HP 2620-24-PoEP Switch and the third has 1x HP 2620-24-PoEP Switch. We have 22 Aerohive APs and 20 CCTV cameras. The school server is a Synology NAS that teachers connect to on a daily bases and this also runs the cameras through Surveillance station. My question is: what is the best possible way for the 3x switches to be connect to each other in the first cabinet and do you think I should be layering the switches for the security cameras etc? If anyone has any advice on making our network run as well as it can then I am all ears. Thank you.

Hi, I am looking for some help and or advice with computing. We are currently looking at the computing scheme of work and we need to refresh it. We currently have 90 iPads and a computing suite with 30 iMacs. The suite has a green screen and a coding area. The coding area has a smartboard plus 6 OSMO kits. At the moment, teachers use the iPads for a computing lesson instead of the suite. This stops other classes using the iPads for general lessons. My thought is that we should be using the computing suite as much as possible because we have it! iPads can we used at any point to enrich a lesson. What do you do at your school? We are a 3 form entry primary (90 in each year group). Thank you for any help with this.

Hi. Forget my last message. got it working. I found that there was a webDAV tick box in file sharing on the server through the Server App. Thanks
-
Thanks for the info jamesfed. I have downloaded WebDAV on my iPad. And tried to connect to the server but I get an error 403. I entered the file share port as it is on a mac do I am sure the connection names are fine. Do I need to turn anything on, on the serve? thanks

Hi. It is Oldham. I work in Chadderton too. Hope the solution works.

Hi did you fix this? You need to login to the server. open workgroup manager. click account. click groups and select the groups that computer or user is in. click preferences and the click login. last tab should say items. click this and delete the login item. Hope that helps
