denzal2k4 Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 (edited) So just signed up for Gsuite, all users have been imported and are syncing, when you go to share a file or send an email can you not just use the username and have it lookup the address in Gsuite? Our domain name is ludicrously long and having to type the full email address for more than 2 people would be a mammoth task! Google N00b Edited September 25, 2018 by denzal2k4
FN-GM Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 You should be able to start typing the first few letters of the name and it will appear with possible options. If you have only just imported a number of users it might take a little time to build up this directory. 1
denzal2k4 Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 Well I imported them about a week ago, they still don't list like I assume they would, is there anything that needs to be turned on in admin??
TwistedHelixis Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 We had the same issue. Turned out to be filtering / firewall issues at our LA
TwistedHelixis Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 G Suite +the apps use a load of ports etc to communicate. I found a list of all the ports and other changes needed and sent that to our LA. I don't seem to have the list but will take a better look when I'm not so busy 1
denzal2k4 Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 I dont get that, if the users are all syncing to Gsuite why does it need to use special ports?? if they are all on GSuite. I'll have a look thanks for the tip.
jthompson Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Check whether you have contact sharing enabled in your G Suite domain. Admin -> Apps -> G Suite -> Directory -> Sharing settings. You'll need "Enable contact sharing" enabled (with whatever sub-options you want) for addresses to be suggested when typing our recipient names. 1
theeggmaster Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 You have to make sure your global Directory is switched on, and then Directory sharing is switched on for each user. I sometimes find that new users take a while before they appear in the Directory, but a week seems excessive. 1
TwistedHelixis Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 I dont get that, if the users are all syncing to Gsuite why does it need to use special ports? The really strange thing was that after the LA entered all the ports and the other changes the address would appear in all Google Apps (Gmail, Drive....) except Team Drives, that needed a different port for it to autocomplete email addresses. BTW our LA are very restrictive when it comes to ports etc. 1
denzal2k4 Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 (edited) i think @jthompson nailed it, we didn't have it turned on, going back into gmail the address's are starting to be listed now I assume its a waiting game for it to fully propagate. Thanks peeps. Edited September 25, 2018 by denzal2k4
jthompson Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Note that you can also hide individual users from the directory, should you need to (Admin -> Users -> user -> User information -> Directory sharing). 1

I'll have a look thanks for the tip. Theres alot of URL's that if you break the ssl cert that particular service will not work in gmail its a bit of a pain if i remember right: people-pa.clients6.google.com is the directory lookup URL, its the same with keep/tasks/hangouts too they have particular URLS that need to be set to not inspect hangoutssearch-pa.clients6.google.comkeep-pa.clients6.google.com calendarsuggest.clients6.google.com just open the browsers developer console and see what errors its spitting out
