New laptops needed - what about HP6715s

No complaints. There is a slight gotcha with the SATA controller if your downgrading to XP. You need to use the bios option to put it back into 'legacy' support otherwise XP will not find the disk.

It comes with XP on it so hopefully that's been done for me

We got the 6715b for £407 - cashback = £307. The spec seems exactly the same except it had 2GB of ram but just 1yr RTB (Although they would extend it for not too much money)... So the LEA price seems a bit steep to me.

 

Anyway, they seem like solid machines. Only (small) problem could be the wireless on/off button is an attractive-to-press light. Not that obvious when off, and you can't put a blob of glue gun on it to prevent wireless from switching off. They are also very wide - we had to get the extra wide lapsafe and even then, I'm not sure there'd be room for external wireless cards if we wanted to upgrade to N.

Well I ordered the machines at £441 at lunchtime as head wanted me get them ASAP - shame I didn't find out about eean's deal until now - but at least I get a bag with mine (where did you get them from BTW for future ref)

 

I wonder what the difference between the s and the b is?

A lot of the big names have them at the cheap prices shown, Insight had them the other day but I think they are out of stock now. I tend to find the LEA may say best value etc but are often not that good really.

 

How about you show the LEA your better pricing and say match it OR ELSE!

I'm using one now and it's fine. It has Vista because I felt I needed to get to grips with it. I didn't get on with the finger print recognition gizmo so I turned it off.

Correct Simon it is, I never buy from them quite simple and easy Well small minor exageration there, I get Antivirus and RM stuff from them as its cheaper from them than anywhere else, everything else is found by me as I can ALWAYS beat there supposed best value without even pressuring the suppliers. I can go by retail prices for a lot of stuff and get it cheaper.

We have several HP 6715's...Excellent units. I like the Turion anyway..I have the same chip in my desktop (Well, an Athlon 3800+ SFFEE, which is the same thing in a different package).

 

We tend to buy them by default at the moment.
