SimpleSi Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Just got an email from Mr Gates saying I can't use OE to access my hotmail account after June and I'll have to upgrade to Windows Live something or other :sob: I suppose, Windows 98SE will be replaced soon as well? regards Simon
FN-GM Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Doesn't surprise me, although i thought they had done that long ago.
john Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 You sure its not a new version of the regular hoax saying Hotmail will be closed down next week due to you not having a premium account?
SimpleSi Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Its quite a technical email quoting things about OE having trouble downloading large inboxes and its only saying OE won't work with hotmail accounts after june 08 - so if its a joke its not a very good one regards Simon
Geoff Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Why on earth anyone would actually choose to use Outbreak Distress is beyond me (sorry Simon!)
SimpleSi Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 I operate on the "if its not broke - don't fix it". Its been my trusted email client since before you were born (well maybe not that long ) Mind u - that new Windows Live thingy looks about the same so I should be OK regards Simon
eejit Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I use Outlook Express as my news reader and I have never found anything better - including XNews etc. Vista tries to update you to Windows Live Desktop Mail thingy, but even though it's better for email, for news-reading it's crap. Once you install it though, OE is gone forever and you need a clean install to get it back :-(

Oh, and those small things with the music on? They're called MP3 players.
SimpleSi Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 oh - it must be my cousin who's trying to integrate the latest Linux laptops with W2k3 servers then Si
richard.thomas Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I've been using Windows Live Email thingy-me-bob for a while now for my hotmail account. Havent had any issues with it and i used to use Outlook Express. The only thing that may annoy you is how it ignores your computers theme and does its own 'fancy' vistary/windows live look...

Geoff Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Same LEA (Lancs), there's some fun conversations at the network managers meetings involving these two (mind you, I'm just as guilty!)
eejit Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Usenet? People still use that? /me runs Ah!, it's still one of the best options for Microsoft support (MSDN or MCSE stuff or whatever)
