Domain Hosting

[CyBeRkId2002]

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience in moving a school domain name (schoolname.leics.sch.uk) away from an ISP to a domain name host? We are moving a few away from ISP's to a central ISP and am wondering if we are better off moving the domain names to a host independent of ISP. In theory I am thinking this may make pointer changes easier, and if we switch ISP in the future things should be simpler.

Has anyone done this, and if so what is the process?

Cheers,

Michael

Yep we've done that. Our school domain is currently hosted by https://www.tsohost.com/ (used to be VidaHost) and the good news is they happily host sch.uk domains for free!

Excellent! I will get in touch with them tomorrow. Do they also do the DNS hosting? And is that also free?

Thanks very much! Spoke to someone extremely helpful on tech support this morning and are now in the process of transferring our domain across! Couldn't be simpler!

Just looking at this myself and our LEA have apparently transferred several to them. Nice to have it confirmed on here that there is a good reason for it!

Honestly, they are awesome and if anyone is in doubt just do it. Process is extremely simple, gives you the management to update DNS rather than email your ISP and waiting (and waiting). If anyone has any queries feel free to PM me.
