BFish Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Hi everyone, My school is an uncomfortable bind. We hired a local software developer to build a cafeteria software and it’s been discovered that students had missing transactions that has been going on for months. The relationship between us and them have gone south and they have refused to alllow the code to be audited by an independent company. I am looking to make an immediate switch. Our school is a Small 400 student school that uses MB / ISams as an international school. I am looking for any advise on what other people may be using or on the matter. I apologize if this is the wrong forum but there didn’t seem to be one on business software so I picked this Incase of someone knowing of a SIS compatible system with either MB or Isams.
mavhc Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Yeah, if you don't have and own the source code you've paid for nothing at all really
psydii Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cashless+catering+schools They vary from "fine" to "dumpster fire". Its a tough market and retaining engineers and developers seems to be difficult. Most products are fine, but when a key individual leaves, the next 24 months can be quiet rough for customers needing support, particularly the start of years or during hardware migrations. While not the slickest products I've found the team at Easytrace (AMI EDUCATION) to be pretty good this last couple of years. Prior to them the infineer team have been outstanding - indeed when their company went bust 7/8 years ago, the individual engineers/developers kept working over the august/September period without pay to keep customers on board so a management buyout/refinancing could take place. The Jonas Group is the parent company for several of the common Education Cashless catering providers, and they share support engineers and hardware. https://www.jonassoftware.com/Our_Companies/Education
BFish Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 Yup... worst mistake of my prof career.
Meldrew Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 Was there any agreement between you and the software developer or was it quite informal?

They've been terrible for us Looking for alternatives.

Yes they sound very good. Also, I wonder is it such a good thing being stuck to an overseas giant like Jonas for so many different software requirements? With the continuing weakness of the pound are they not more likely to be increasing their prices disproportionately, relative to domestic suppliers? I believe they already charge a fortune, with annual increases a given. I'm leaning towards keeping it British and there seems to be plenty to choose from within the UK. Lucy. 1
AJWhite1970 Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Another NRS user here, no complaints with their service and support. Also using their E-Reg boxes for biometric sixth form registers
