Sorry in advance for the long post but I am still relatively new to SIMS!

I am trying to create a report on SIMS that will only use the latest result from an assessment aspect with multiple results sets within the same marksheet.

I first tried by setting the filters for a particular aspect and sorting by ‘result date’. Then ticked the ‘display first record only’ button on the filter. However, it seems that because the result is linked to a formula in the marksheet SIMS recalculates the whole sheet every time you enter data giving them all the same result date (annoying!).

Then I tried to sort by resultset but due to the naming convention we currently use the resultsets, when sorted alphabetically as they are in SIMS are not in the correct order for our data drops.

So my question is if I changed our naming convention of the results sets will that have an impact anywhere else in SIMS. I was thinking of changing from:

Year # September Baseline

Year # Milestone 1

Year # Milestone 2

Year # Milestone 3

To prefixing each one with a hash symbol and then a number moving up in sequence e.g.

#1 Year 3 September Baseline

#2 Year 3 Milestone 1

you could do that, and as SIMS uses the ID of the resultset rather than the name to identify it, changing the name won't have much effect.

Alternatively, you could add another formula into your templates to calculate the Most recent result and store it in a new resultset. We call ours "Most Recent". This has the advantage of being able to use this in SIMS analysis and Discover graphs without having to update it every data drop.

Thanks for the advice, how would you use a formula to calculate the most recent?

a nested if then else formula for data entry (using the same aspect but the new result set) then you can do a comparison starting with the latest column (e.g. Summer assessment) and check if it is no equal it to any value not in the gradeset (e.g. if Summer TA <> NA) because SIMS will ignore any If statement where either side of the operator is NULL. Here is a screenshot of one I did for a Marks integer aspect where the teacher had to enter a positive value to be valid.
