OnePlus are going to upgrade the 3 & 3T to Android P which is surprising because they didn't bother upgrading them to Android 8.1.

 

The OnePlus 3/3T will skip Android 8.1 and get Android P

 

The OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T is getting close to the end of its Android version updates and we’re now being told that these two devices are going to be skipping Android 8.1 and going straight to Android P (9.0). The OnePlus 3 came out in June of 2016 and the OnePlus 3T hit the market in November of the same year.

 

OnePlus says they have been working closely with Google on the Android P Beta Program. The last bit of information they told us, which is natural in the Android ecosystem, is that OnePlus will be rolling out Android P to the OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, the OnePlus 3/3T in that order. So those of us still rocking the OnePlus 3/3T as a daily driver will have to wait a bit longer before we get a taste of Android 9’s secretive dessert.

Starting today, an over-the-air update to Android 9 will begin rolling out to Pixel phones. And devices that participated in the Beta program from Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Essential, as well as all qualifying Android One devices, will receive this update by the end of this fall. We're also working with a number of other partners to launch or upgrade devices to Android 9 this year.

Will it fix the battery drain issues that plagued Oreo? I don't dare upgrade my OP6 at present as it seems pot luck whether battery will stay at current levels or lose 50% capacity due to "Android System" constantly draining for no reason. Same issue killed my HTC 10 as well

My Alcatel tablet won't go beyond 6.0

 

and the Samsung phone seems to stop at 5

I read somewhere that Google wants to manage the OS releases of Android devices in the same way they do with ChromeOS devices. If this does happen it should mean devices get proper software update support.

Bah! I hadn't realised that the Nexus range have been shelved now.

Will have to wait for an indy Android 9 distro for my 5X now.
