I have been in a few schools where fingerprints work well - cards have been a problem as the kids forget them and loose them

 

but be prepared for complaints about 'treating the kids like criminals'

(which was amusing when it first happened because the complaints all came from parents where the police already had the whole family's fingerprints on file - and probably kept the file in a convenient place as it was added to frequently)

We do this. Parents order online in advance so correct meals are delivered everyday. We have a list of who is having what and children get a coloured band. Servers check band and hand out correct meal. Works really well.
