Windows Updates on Server 2016

Firstly, many apologies if this has been covered here already - I tried searching but didn't find much

 

It's the simple questions that keep me awake at night! Why is it that Windows updates on Server 2012 were easy, quick and efficient whereas, on Server 2016, even small updates seem to take hours to install? The new style Updates interface is rubbish and the whole experience is aweful!

 

There are literally hundred of threads all over the internet with people complaining about this but MS seem to just ignore it!

 

I manage a rapidly growing large number of Svr2016 servers and I dread having to update them. A good number of them don't have a WSUS policy applying to them for various operational reasons and it takes hours to update them!

I find using sconfig from the command line makes the update process a lot more bearable in 2016

Great. We are starting to roll out more and more 2016 servers! Hope MS get on and sort this soon. Really don't like the W10/S2016 update interface.

I use SConfig too via Powershell, its a little quicker.

 

I share your frustration though!

Cheers guys! I've had a play with sconfig and yes, i think it will improve things a little!
