Hi!

I have forty old iPad 2s that cannot go any higher than iOS 9.3.5 and am using Apple's VPP store.

How can I now access older versions of apps to match these paging iPads and apply them via a profile?

Unmanaged iPads are okay because the system recognizes that they are incompatible but the central service will, understandably, provide you with the most up-to-date versions. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'd be interested to know the same. We've got a few iPad 2s hanging around on 9.3.5 using VPP Apps, also soon to be on ZuluDesk. So would be nice to put some of the apps back on we no longer have on them.

It is a bit fiddly but there is a way to trick itunes in to downloading an older version of an ipa file. I used the instructions from https://makovetsky.me/downgrade-iphoneipad-application-on-windows/ to successfully download ipas for 9.3.5 in the past which worked successfully with apple configurator 2.

Fiddly indeed - but thanks very much for being so sneaky!

I am in the process of finding out the relevant version numbers for the apps that won't work with iOS9 and have downloaded Fiddler onto my PC.

In the interim, I have been tinkering with something and will let you know if it succeeds. The more options that we have, the better.

If you try and install this via from iTunes via configurator you will run into problems because this will now ask for an Apple ID on the iPad to install as the app has not come from VPP, if you try and install onto multiple iPads you are breaking app licencing rules as well.

Best advice would be to call Apple Enterprise Support and start a ticket

Thanks, Brimstone. I had already started an Apple ticket but thought that it was worth an ask on this forum.

Even though I have, under another name (old school), been a member for some time, this is the first time that I have really tried it out.

IF you have downloaded the app before ON vpp and on pushed it via MDM it will download the latest version of the app 9.3.5 can handle. if you dont use MDM and vpp then the new ipad2/3 will not DL a lot of apps. unfortunately A LOT of apps require 10 and up

Has anyone had any further luck with this? We currently have a box of 30 iPads that are near unusable, which is a shame as they are booked quite frequently by classes.

Will mosyle help with this?

I've just started to reload our iPad 2's using Mosyle. I've downloaded MS Word (requires IOS 10) from VPP and pushed it out using Mosyle.. seems to be working ok..
