[1709, fcu] High Contrast Issue

Hi all,

Having a problem with our current windows 10 deployment. Hoping to find some help but not had any luck searching via google.

 

• We have a theme that is applied on a user's first login via GPO.
  
• Users do not have the rights to adjust the current theme or apply their own theme.
  
• When a user turns on 'high-contrast' they are unable to turn it back off again. I think this is because they do not have permission to apply any themeing. This user ends up stuck forever with high-contrast enabled.
  
• After the high-contrast user logs out or restarts the high-contrast theme stays applied to the login screen, and also applies itself to the next user to log in.
  
• The only way to clear the theme for subsequent users is to log in as administrator and apply a default windows theme
  
• the only way to clear high-contrast theme from the original user that set it is to delete that user's local profile.
  

Can anyone help me figure out how to allow users to independently toggle high-contrast on and off, even when the user has no permissions to apply themes, and to prevent high-contrast effecting subsequent users?

If a user decides to log in to a bunch of workstations and set high-contrast then it is going to be a stupid amount of work to get them all reverted.

Thank god it's not just us. Seems like this has just started here after (I assume) someone played with the ease of access button on the login screen which I stupidly didn't remove in case anybody actually needed it.. . Anyway, now it seems spreading pretty quickly as users log into different machines and take high contrast with them, which then gets stuck to the machine and subsequently anybody else that logs in.. ffs.

 

The shortcut to enable/disable it seems to work (left-alt, left-shift, print screen), and obviously we can toggle it from the login screen's ease of access button, but it's still a pain. Seeing as your post is a little old now, did you manage to solve it?

 

I'm kind of suspecting UE-V exacerbates the issue, as we had it set to sync themes / ease of access, so I've stopped that.. though we'll have to see how that goes.

Sorry to hear you're suffering too. Unfortunately we've not found a solution. I made a few threads around the web like this one looking for help but the only replies are people saying they have the same issue :-( We're just going to have to try to manage it manually and hope nobody goes on a high-contrast setting rampage.

Had this occasionally since windows 7, never looked into why it occurs.

They try unsetting and it either doesnt fully unset or when they restart its back into that state once logged in.

 

Used to delete the profile but then i started running a command in ab tutor to set the theme back which worked.

 

Not had to do it here yet and cant find the command, think i just called the theme file.
