Who hosts your school domain? sch.uk

I am looking to transfer our domain away from our current provider as we are leaving them as our ISP.

 

Can any domain hosting company host a sch.uk address? Or are there only specific providers?

 

I had a look on names.co.uk but don't seem to be able to add the sch.uk domain.

RM. Not a recommendation necessarily, just a name for your list of companies that can handle a .sch.uk domain.

At the Primary, we used to have it with RM/SWGfL, and transferred over to EXA when changing ISP. My understanding is that any registrar should be able to look after the name for you, but generally we keep this with the ISP we are transferring to so any changes that we make should in theory happen quicker internally than waiting for DNS replication with NS on the net.

I have ours hosted at TSOHost (used to be Vidahost until recently).

 

AFAIK any UK domain company can host this for you.

 

You just need the current registrar to alter the domains IPS TAG to an alterate host.

They've been perfect so far (as Vidahost). However Vidahost have just been taken over by TSOHost so hopefully they'll stay the same.

I have nominet as the registrar https://registrants.nominet.org.uk then https://www.namecheap.com/domains/freedns/ for dns as you could set up dns with them without having dns already

We shifted to Krystal Hosting, mainly because the previous registrar (LA-affiliated) took 3 days to process changes and frequently typoed the records, even after being sent screenshots of what the record should look like.

 

The caveat is to ensure your provider understands that .sch.uk domains are free for schools and doesn't enabled auto-renewal notices or (if that's not possible), set the auto-renewal date 99 years in the future.

I asked our LA if we could move the registrar for our .sch.uk domain. They offered to delegate access in Azure DNS to me. Snapped their hands off to take this up.
