How to design a report that shows a given day's attendance

I'm able to generate a report of today's attendance within SIMS, like so: Reports > Attendance > Whole Group Student Reports > Today's Register Report.

 

This creates an XML file that I'm then able to parse in e.g. Powershell to do things with this data (email parents, list absent students on a digital noticeboard in staffroom, etc. etc.)

 

But what I really want to do, is to generate this report periodically, e.g. every 15 minutes.

 

I have dabbled with CommandReporter.exe and can manually export reports that have been created in the Report Designer. However when I specify the name of the report as "Today's Register Report", CommandReporter.exe responds with "this report is not found".

 

So I'm guessing this is a special kind of report, which, whilst it can be run manually to create an output file in SIMS, is somehow not compatible with CommandReporter, because the report is not shown in Report Designer.

 

A) Is that correct?

 

B) How do I achieve the goal of exporting today's attendance (for the whole school)*?

 

 

* I don't care really care whether this report has too much data, I can filter it later in Powershell. I just need an XML file that includes register information for today's date, however much else there is in there as well.

You can build attendance reports in the report builder (we have) to export the data.

 

I’m too tired to think it through right now, but I know my report takes the total attendance marks so far for the year, over the total possible, to get a percentage (pure attendance, not authorised/unauth).

 

So if I import that data daily, I can see the change over a day, which will then give me the attendance data for each student that day. I could then find the attendance with sone maths.

 

I haven’t tried doing this with whole school stats but easy enough - however it depends how you’re processing it.

You can do it very simply with a report based around the student and a subreport of attendance marks.

 

Can't remember how to parse variables (today's date being quite important) but if you can do that then this should pull out all the marks for today.
