Do schools write back to the SIMS database using software created inhouse?

I wonder if any/many schools have created their own software that writes back to SIMS. If so, how onerous is the process of getting your code approved by Capita? Do they charge for this if you are a LEA school? Do they charge indirectly by making you purchase a training course/test databases etc?

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has looked in to this or anyone who is currently either using Business Objects to read/write to the SIMS database and find out what the experience is like.

Thanks.

David.

If you want to keep your paid for support then yes there are hurdles to jump through so probably not many schools will do this. If your unofficial write back goes wrong and the data has to go off to Capita to be fixed it isnt cheap.

Hi David44. I hope you do get some replies from schools that have achieved SIMS writeback and the feedback you require. If you don't we can put you in touch with some school reference sites. In the meantime we are happy to help you directly. I would recommend you log a case with your LA SIMS support team to let them know what you are planning. They may well ask for a detailed specification signed off by your SLT. I would then suggest you contact my colleague [email protected] with your case number and ask for details about the new SIMS partner ecosystem. If you wish to contact me direct then I am on [email protected]. Good luck.
