Hello,

We have a Paxton Net2 system, which we are expanding in-house. I have a question regarding maglock wiring, if anyone can help -

 

We have maglocks with bi-colour LEDs. The manual states that when the lock is energised, and the door held closed, the LED should light green. When the lock is energised but the door is open, ie the magnet is not making contact, the LED should light red. In my situation, the LED lights red when the door is closed, and green when energised but open, so it's the wrong way round.

 

I am wiring the maglock (via a break glass) to the +12v and 0v connections on the lock, disregarding the NC, NO, common terminals, back to the Net2 controller. Is this correct?

 

The lock physically functions, but it's niggling me that the LED colours are the wrong way!

I think all our doors are set that way on all our sites. When the door is unlocked the LED flashes green.

 

Naturally red means stop (locked door) and green means go (door unlocked).

 

Maybe the manual has a typing error?

From memory I think thats the same with our tecom system, Red/Orange when locked and green when unlocked via swipe

One other quick question:

 

Can the NC,NO etc terminals within the maglock be used to detect if the magnet is in contact? I understand you can fit a reed/door contact to signal alarm conditions to the net2 controller, but I believe if the magnet has "magnetic bond sensing" this can be wired back to the door contact terminals of the net 2 controller. Is that correct? I'd like to detect if the door has been held open, and it would be neater to use the lock if possible, than to fit door contacts.

You can connect the NC and C connectors on a monitored maglock into the contact input on the Net2 controller (4th & 5th terminals from the bottom on the right).

 

You can then set it in the software to send an alert or even sound a siren if you have wired one into the controller.

 

I havn't done this myself as the contacts on the maglocks seem to fail quite quickly (many of ours stay green even when the door is closed).

Yes, I use this on a number of doors and it works reasonably well however... I do often see false positive 'Door Forced' alerts when the for is opened too quickly. I'm told by Paxton that it's due to the door being opened to before the maglock has fully discharged?

 

Also, make certain you get the wiring the correct way around and have access to a computer just in case. When the controller thinks the door is open, it essentially disables the reader so if it's back to front, you get stuck in a 'catch 22' and a fob won't get you back in!. Luckily it can be overridden remotely by setting it to 'always unlocked' !
