All..

Asking on behalf of the technician who orders the pens :)

Our school used to buy the orange/grey Promethean pens (for the older serial model boards) from Misco at about £12-15 each.

Misco have sadly gone out of business, so the school are looking elsewhere - and being quoted upwards of £30 per pen(!!) - which is clearly a significant markup.

Where do you guys get your Promethean pens from?

Cheers,

Gerard

In 2017 we ordered a 10 pack of the grey/orange Activboard pens from CBC Computers LTD, that's done us well for a while. Might be worth checking with them if they still have any if they're EOL (Ask for Ben Mitchell), the product code was ACTIVPEN3-1.

Prices have tripled because they stopped making them, however the Promethean guy I was chatting to at a "technology showcase" last month said they have realised making them end of life was a mistake so they should be starting production again... hopefully. I always got ours from IDNS and the orange stripe ones were always around £10-£15 each (although they have no stock until promethean restart production)

Hi All,

What I can say is that "original" Grey/ orange pens are no longer being manufactured by Promethean, and to my knowledge, never again will be - due to some internal parts no longer being available.

However, we have got another solution in the works, which is going to be applicable for the older AC2 boards, we do still manufacture the ActivArena pens which are compatible with the AC2 boards, and allow dual user functionality within ActivInspire.

If you require new pens, then you would need to look at purchasing ARAAC2PENSET - They are £30 (plus postage) for a Teacher and student pen set (including applicable firmware update to the ActivBoard) on our needitnow site: https://needitnow.gb.prometheanworld.com/collections/activboard-older-version/products/activarena-pen-set-ac2-boards

IF you want to source this through a reseller then of course the part code is provided above.

Thanks

These don't work on the really old boards (of which we have quite a few!). If I'd known they were going end of life I would have ordered more than the occasional pack of 10 when I needed them. I know the stuff we have is old but this really puts me off ordering any new Promethean kit.

Im positive the ARAAC2PENSET works fine with old boards with a firmware update. We just got a set to test and works fine, just more expensive!!!

£25 for a second hand pen is the cheapest I could find yesterday on ebay. They used to be £99 for a pack of 10 new ones. Some are being offered at over £50 as they know they are out of production.

Most places seem to have run out of the original ActivPen 3's now - so once all supplies are exhausted - we need to start using the Promethean ActivArena pens, which come in a two-pack (Teacher & Student), but also do a firmware update so they are able to work on the older boards...

The firmware update is available here: https://support.prometheanworld.com/article/?kb=1030

I've had a quote of £38.33 for the 2-pen set at the moment, from www.crusaderav.co.uk

Update: Hadn't seen the post saying similar above!
