Hi

We don’t have remote file access for staff and students to access home drives and shared drives.

As GDPR going to be effective from May, is it ok to ask them to use drop box until a permanent remote access is setup.

Any suggestions will be great.

It would probably be ok if they were accounts you had control of. If they were personal accounts what controls do you have on the data when a member of staff leaves etc?

Definitely not ok if these are their personal accounts. If it's an enterprise subscription that you control access to then it's fine; no different from Google Drive or OneDrive for education.

I understand , this is a good point. Currently many of the staff use personal accounts on dropbox.

What are the safe options for temporary remote file access for staff and students.

Do you have a Google Apps account?

They're free for education - could use Google Drive or Google Team Drives to do this? With the new Google Drive File Stream tool, it makes the integration with Windows a lot better.
