We're almost coming to an end of our 3 year lease contract.

The current solution proposed for our admin office is a Toshiba 5005AC Colour MFD and Kyocera 5551ci Colour MFD.

On paper, the Toshiba can do 50ppm whilst the Kyocera is 55ppm, both in A4 colour. I must admit the latter (Kyocera) will be a repossessed device, therefore costing the school much less than the brand new Toshiba.

However, cost aside, the real question is: Which of the two brands perform best in business/school environments, have a high reliability rate and can perform like a workhorse?

It is crucial for the admin team to have the best as they also undertake the duties of reprographics.

I had both Tosh and Kyocera in my previous job and the firm that serviced them swapped the Kyocera out themselves at there own expense as when pushed they just failed and were unreliable and gave us some refurbished Toshiba's that never went wrong. They inherited the Kyocera arm through an aquistion they made as they would never have sold us them it would have been Toshiba or Ricoh.

Why you looking at a mixed fleet? Surely one manufacturer or the other and I certainly wouldn't want a second hand machine in all sounds a bit fishy to me.

We had 2 kyocera’s before replacing all of our MFDs with toshiba’s and they were both worse than any others we had, I partly put that down to a poor service company *cough*wood

We now have 5 Tosh’s and rarely need a service call compared to at least weekly between the 2 Kyoceras.

Thanks guy for all your replies.

We're only looking at one copier that may be Toshiba whilst all around the school will be Kyocera MFDs. All from the one company.

The company will not be charging the school any rental costs. We simply pay £200 one-off cost for each MFD we take on as they're second hand equipment. The Toshiba works out to be £280 per month as it's brand new. There is no rental/lease agreement involved. All we do then is pay £0.0028 per copy for mono and £0.028 per copy for colour.

If we choose to move elsewhere, then we simply pick up the phone and tell them to remove their equipment at no extra cost.

Sounds very simple, and it is. No other company we've gotten quotes from can beat them. All they've done is shoot them down by making comments that we'll have refurbished machines, with refurbished parts, that haven't gone through any quality control whatsoever. However, majority of the schools in the borough have gone with this company and the LA actually recommends them.

We have 8 Toshiba 2505s here. They rarely have issues and when they do they are generally caused by misuse. Can't fault Toshiba's support times either. In most cases an engineer is here within a couple of hours.
