Hi,

At the moment we have a combination of Excel spreadsheets and paper records but we are looking if there is a better way of doing things.

Do any other schools use any software solutions to record, track and manage student health information?

If so, what and how well do they work? What issues have you found?

Thanks in advance,

Ian

Do you not have an MIS system that you can input this information into?

Yes, we use SIMS but this information in addition to what can be held as standard in SIMS.

For example:

Where it happened, what year group, when it happened, how it happened, has year group been contacted, have parents been contacted, what actions have been carried out by first aider.

Ian

Accident forms are paper and filled in by the first aider. The office junior scans them to PDF and attaches them to the pupil record under medical notes.

Does seem odd that folks won't use their existing MIS system to record MI data :S

Inertia, plus no-one wants to be responsible for processing the backlog.

Another option I have been told about is Behaviour Watch, which covers not just behaviour but also first aid for students.

No glory in just getting on with it. Still suppose you could pretend its an additional module which you've managed to blag for free - double glory anyone? Or do we need more shiny?

We happily have an office junior, so they're doing it in batches. If we didn't have one.......

We have a school nurse onsite, she previously used excel spreadsheets and paper. We have recently pointed her towards using the Medical notes section on SIMS and it appears to be working really well. Any item she uploads that is confidential and other staff do not need to see, is set to "private", that way only she can view and see the documents that she has added - we have contingency access if required.

Any solution you chose I would give thought to subject access requests. If data is all over the place it will be hard to collect it all together easily.
