As an aside, something in the back of my mind says this occurred previously - quite a long time back - I'm sure it'll be resolved before long.

Hi folks,

Some reason I've note been getting notifications via the mobile app, so have missed what's going on. It seems that when my firewall updates and reboots, it screws up the reverse proxy for by webserver at home.

I will get it back up and running later today, thanks.

My cloudflare DNS needed changing to my new IP , so all is now up and working. I suppose its one of the draw backs of Virgin Media, no static IPs for home users...

Hi @ass17,

Thank you for the updated version.

Is the export to docx able to deal with pictures and tables?

I ask because we get this

Export.PNG

EamWritePad on the left and the Exported .docx file on the left

That is strange as my test file with all manner of things inside it coverts ok.

Can you send me your exam text file please by pm or by email [email protected] or [email protected] so I can take a look and I can send you my test file to run on your setup too.

Below is my export and I have used many styles, alignments, bullets, tables, images, text highlighting etc

It comes out perfect for me, the background page colour is always stripped out on purpose for printing as per normal.

I'm using Office 365 (Latest)

Hi @ass17.

I've just installed the latest version of EWP the latest version of Windows 10 Education (20H2) - but it is failing to load.... am I alone? or am I missing something?

I can access the config GUI, but the program itself isn't loading.

cheers

Yes, you probably haven’t read the documentation that says to install the vs 2013 runtime. It’s the only prerequisite for 1903 or higher. [emoji1303]

Ok,

So looking at the file, it’s all to do with either the text doc component I use of the export component I use. Will have to play around with it more as it could be something to do with the RTF spec standards with either component.

Short answer is:

If the image is set to default wrapping of “In Line” then it exports OK as is.

If you set the wrapping to “Square” then you also have to set the saving option “Embed data in the document” on the saving options tab when you format the image.

I’m going to try to set Emded data in the document as the default but not sure how it’s done or if possible.

Thank you for doing the testing, I can replicate your results with the wrapping.

It works really well when this is set to embed.

Best of luck. :)

Ok sorted that issue, I have now set by default that images are embedded but be careful as your exam text files may now become massive!

A document now with 10 high res images will be around 30-40MB in file size and will take about 5-10 seconds to load depends on processing power of the PC.

It’s also a good idea to embed images because if a student copies the file onto a memory stick and then the exam officer takes it to their PC to print off, they won’t have the images as the image path will be invalid.

This fix will be out in the next release coming by end of next week.

Good luck with that! I was never able to get users (teachers particularly) to understand why their images were not appearing in their PowerPoints etc.

...but they were there this morning on my computer at home...

This even after warning them about making sure that they bring their pictures (or other media) with them if they are not embedded. Understood?

Yes, OK.

Just a quick update to let you know what is coming in the next version so far:

  • ADDED: The header/Footer as now inserted into the ‘Export to DOCX’ function and will honour all the settings for headers/footers in the config.

  • FIXED: The PaperSize button would not be hidden when set to hide in the config.

  • FIXED: When restoring a previous history, the document window of the previous history never gets its contents reset.

  • FIXED: When images were inserted, and were linked as opposed to embedded, and also, they were set to square wrapping as opposed to in-line, they would appear blank when exporting to a DOCX file. Images inserted into EWP are now embedded by default.

  • FIXED: When inserting an image larger than the page size, it will now be scaled to fit the page width. If the pages have been set to landscape, then the image with fit the page height not width.

  • FIXED: Narrator volume would throw an error if the initial volume were set to an odd number and you tried to increase it above 99% or decrease it below 1%.

  • ADDED: Volume level percentage now added underneath the volume ‘Up/Down’ buttons on the narrator ribbon.

Hi does ExamWritepad work On Macs?Got it!

Sorry no but you could in a round about way if you have a windows Remote Desktop server. Then deploy ExamWritePad via RemoteApp like some people on here have for Chromebooks.

Hi @ass17,

Thank you again for all your work.

The pictures are showing consistently now.

Tables still come out with no borders though?

Please may we have the option to choose the location of the exported .DOCX, or set a default path in the same way as the save location?

Best regards

I can do that with the export output path no problem.

Can you send me exactly how you create your tables, step by step because when I do it with or without borders, and each cell populated with text and images, they alway exports as normal to docx.

I've exported a few tables and they are OK, how did you create yours? I'm in Word 365 and Word 2016
