I am looking for a Windows Desktop/Server course - could you recommend a London based provider (e.g. QA) or online (e.g. cbtnuggets.com)?

Try Udemy. They have sales on regularly and courses go as low as £10. I would check reviews of the individual courses first before enrolling.

I've lost £800 through national distance learning centre on a basic hardware course circa year 2000, then I lost a further £6000 when Advent IT went belly up in 2010. I will never give another penny of my own cash to anyone, even if it means that I need to leave the industry, then so be it. I have zero trust in any company delivering training now.

Buy a book, Microsoft probably do free ebooks, and probably do free training too

Try the Microsoft Virtual Academy online, it's great for learning all things Microsoft including Powershell and what you need to know for taking the MTA's. Just google it!
