Salamander and Outlook Calander

Hi all

 

I have just had Salamander installed in my school, pretty powerful bit of software.

 

Part of this is to transfer timetable from SIMS so staff and student can book rooms and resources etc.

 

I have done some work with this and created resource mailboxes and rooms in 365 that syncs with SIMS

 

I hop that the staff will book iPads or Rooms through Outlook like they do with booking meetings in Outlook at present.

 

Is this the best way forward? Any feedback with folks who have done this? Are staff happy using it?

 

We are replacing our Frog VLE with this in the near future.

I have also migrated From Frog to Firefly and handed over all of the booking duties to Salamander which is integrating with outlook and sims. This is enabling us to display timetables in Outlook for staff and students as well a place booking sfor Camera and other rooms. for us it works well and it also sync all this info to users phone and tablets as well.

Do the staff book rooms via meeting function in Outlook? I do see a calendar of timetables for ICT rooms in 365 now which is great!

 

Do staff complain at all that Outlook dont represent time slots in periods ? (only as time slots)

Yes they complain sometimes but I find that its always part of getting used to the new system. and yes they place booking via the meeting function.

sorry to bump the thread...

 

Still trying to get my head round Time table booking.

 

Salamander has sync timed table rooms to sync with outlook 365, I have created these in Exchange admin (we run a hybrid setup) as Resource mailboxes.

 

I am getting an error when trying to book a room :

 

"You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder..."

 

Because it's a resource mailbox I could not find a section in Exchange admin 365 to assign users permission

 

Any advice? thanks !

I am afraid that I do not use Office 365 we use our own Exchange server. I did need to allocate permissions to each type of users so that they were able to make the correct types of changes. I recall using,

 

Owner, PublishingEditor, Editor, PublishingAuthor, Author, NonEditingAuthor, Reviewer, Contributor, None.

Yes, Im wondering whether I've designed this the wrong way...

 

I have setup resource mailbox in Office 365 (ie Room-10 Room-25) and salamander is syncing the timetable with it, however I get permission issues trying to view the relevant calendars and no where I can see permission options in the admin portal?

I believe that you are able to connect a shell/command line to the office 365 tenancy. If you do this then are you able to allocate permissions as if you are using a local exchange server ?as I say I do not use Office 365.
