Promethean V5 setup with Windows 10

Hi,

 

I was wondering if anyone has any experience using V5's with Windows 10?

 

Our setup will be a PC connected to the V5 and we will want to use it in extended mode.

 

However, when using touch functionality of the V5 it opens everything up on the main PC monitor and not the V5. For example, going to the start menu it opens that up on the PC monitor.

 

Does anyone know of any settings we can change so that what is touched on the V5 works on the V5 and not on the PC monitor. Surely Windows 10 has settings that recognise you are using an external touch screen monitor?

 

I have messed about with things like Windows Key + Shift + Arrows to move the application to the V5 and then Windows Key + Shift +Enter to make it open by default on the V5 but it does not work for all software and definitely does not work for the likes of the Windows 10 start menu.

 

I realise that this can all be resolved by duplicating the PC screen to the V5 but from a teachers point of view it's not a great way to work and limits their productivity.

 

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

There is always one detail I forget to add.

 

No, keeping the PC monitor as the main display. I realise that it's normally how the applications are written that dictates which screen they open on. I just thought that Windows 10 would be clever enough to launch it on the V5 it was opened on.

 

This may not be possible at all due to how the applications we use are written. So annoying.

Hi, if you go to the Windows control panel then go Tablet PC, you can configure your touch in 'Setup' devices . This allows you to tell Win 10 which screen is a touch screen. Not sure if this will help with what programs open where.I also think that programs

 

I also think that in Windows programs will open up on the same monitor that they were opened in the last time (if that monitor is available). i.e open the programs, move them around to where you want them and then close them again. When you re-open them they should be where they were when you closed them - but I may just have dreamt this!

Thanks for the suggestion, I already tried that out and although it does not help with what I am looking for just now it is what you have to do to get the touch screen working.

I had messed about with something similar. You can use Windows Key + Shift + arrow keys to move the currently highlighted application or window to a different screen. Then you can use Windows Key + Shift + Enter and that should force it to remember where to open next time.

 

Annoyingly this only seems to work for certain applications, such as Edge. But a number of things I tried, such as ActiveInspire it does not work for (for me anyway).

 

This also leads to the reverse problem where it may not be where the teacher wants it to open to that time. The teacher may have something showing on the Promethean panel, such as a YouTube video and then they may want to carry on with some of their work (rather than watch the video for the 5th time that week) and when launching an application on the PC it might remember it was last locked to open on the Promethean and get in the way of the YouTube video.

 

It's a real pain to try and work out and it may not be possible.
