Updating Netgear switch firmware

I have some manageable Netgear switches that i'm trying to upgrade the firmware/software on. This needs to be done via TFTP server which worked a treat on the first 3 i did but for some reason on the remaining i am unable to update and just get update failed when the switch resets. I am connected to the switch with both RS-232 and patch lead but still this doesn't want to update Anybody done this before and know what i'm on about?

We only do it via TFTP (+ serial) if normal firmware update goosed the switch. What's stopping you from using the web browser?

 

Anyway, what was the previous firmware on the switches that failed? The release notes will tell you what prerequisite version of firmware you need to be on before you can update. Failing that the firmware file might just have got corrupted, try downloading it again.

I didn't see your response. I forgot to select email notification. Anyway i managed to update these in the end. There were a couple of things:

 

1) Windows firewall off or an exception created (bit embarrassed about this one. Thought i had checked)

2) Laptop/computer with TFTP server needs to have a static IP address

3) Switch needs to be on the same IP range as TFTP server (I didn't think this was essential but wouldn't update until i set this)

That's to protect you from bad people on the rest of the web. You must use a node on the same subnet as the switch.
