Powerpoint 2016 - Crashing and altering screen settings.

Got some cheap-ey HDMI splitters in and now getting issues with one of them not outputting to both screens. Seems to upset something in the PC where it can't now output to both (yes really, with a splitter) and only ever wants to treat the HDMI signal as monitor 2.

 

This is absolutely insane.

 

However the other one in my ongoing saga (currently have two on the go to test) is behaving perfectly.

 

I don't get how this can be such carnage. And this coming from an era of projectors they've replaced which just behaved beautifully all the time.

Thats weird, as the ones I use take the 1 output, and just send it to both. wonder which one you are using.

 

I had one of my Lindy ones fail last week, or actually a student thought it was funny to take a pair of scissors to the power cable, I just replaced it with this one. https://www.ebuyer.com/882667-startech-com-2-port-hdmi-splitter-with-hdr-st122hd202

 

Seems a bit more robust than the Lindy one, also seems to handle audio pass through better, I have one output to a standard LED monitor for the teacher and then the other output to a Smart MX275 V4, works fantastically at 1080p. I can then select which output the audio goes down, but I actually disable HDMI audio as most class rooms have seperate audio systems or Soundfield systems.

They were proper cheap ones, have got a workaround now having gone back to it - turn the SMART TV on LAST after the PC and monitor are on then it doesn't upset it. Just ordered up a few of the Lindy ones, now *sigh* reading there's problems with audio with those...

 

WHY is it so difficult to just get this working??

I do feel it was related to the generation of CPU and Intel GFX in the HP desktops. I am replacing them all this summer, Had a newer HP refurb machine from ICT Direct as one failed a few weeks ago, tried this without a splitter and it behaved as normal.

 

Lindy ones worked fine for me, in over 30 rooms here for me and now have 2 of the Ebuyer Startech ones, also doing a good hob.
