Creating shared folders

Hi Guys,

 

Please how do you create a shared folder without allowing users to see the path of the folder? I want users to see just the Name and drive letter of the folder

Mapping the drive using a GPO in the Group Policy Preferences section usually hides the path from obvious display.

If command prompt instead disabled though, they could still just type 'net use' though to find out where it goes to.

Unless mapped via GPP, wouldn't that allow them to still see a path though? It's good practice though and at least it wouldn't point directly to a specific server.

 

Although on the subject of hiding folders and good practice, ensure you share is setup with a $ at the end of the share name. So it won't be visible if someone is able to browse the server name for available shares.

Yeah it would just make it a generic root and not to a specific server. Which is pretty much half the battle.

 

$share would also help.
