USB Memory Stick "Caddy" Option?

Hi, not sure if this is the right forum for this!

Basically, I've just bought a Steinberg eLicenser (https://www.thomann.de/de/steinberg_key.htm) to hold the licenses for some Software Plugins (Music Production).

Issue is, is that it's really small and I predict I may lose it at some stage (regardless of how hard I try not to!). I think it'd be down to the size of the unit and the fact that it's plastic.

To try and prevent this, I was looking at potential options to store/use it in some sort of container/caddy similar to this: https://sgcdn.startech.com/005329/media/products/gallery_large/IDE2510U2.B.jpg

Issue is, is that it's a USB to SATA caddy! Ideally, I'd like a Female USB USB port on the exterior or the caddy and then another one on the inside so I could connect the USB but can't see why anyone would sell this pre-made as it's a very rare usage case!

If you were approached with this issue, how would you approach it? Is there already a product existing that would do what I want?

Cheers.

Is this for personal usage or school wise?

School wise we just use USB extenders to return it back inside the case, and tie them inside so if anyone pulls the cable it'll detach but stays with the pc.

Personal wise I'd just go down the route of the same I do for USB pens etc and stick a neon lanyard on it :p

Obviously I guess it depends what you're trying to do with it and if it's going to be travelling lots etc if laptop/dj wise etc

Hi Steve, this is for personal use. I have a Laptop and a Desktop so I'll be constantly switching it between the two when it arrives. I'm doing lots of travelling and don't want to lose it at at any point! If I was based at home, yup - a neon lanyard would do the trick!

I like the concept of the eLicenser, however I wish they made a larger, even M2 SSD version and charged a bit more for it. That way it was something physically bigger and more durable than a USB drive!

I'll have about £800 worth of software on it (reFX Nexus, and a load of other stuff) when it's fully loaded so still seeking ways of securing it.

Thanks for all your help so far, appreciated!

I may be missing something obvious, but why not just get a suitable plastic/wooden/metal box:

plus one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Extension-Cable-Adapter-Female-Connector-30CM/dp/B01MZ7J4HC

Then add a suitable hole, pack it out and/or glue the stick in and decorate it to your taste if you like.

Or, if you have the time/skills you could use something like this as a basis for a custom fancy "larger enclosure": Make Your Own Steampunk USB: 9 Steps

Thanks all of you for all of your suggestions! Kudos given. I'll report back when I've got something I'm happy with (may take up the DIY approach as discussed by @LeMarchand).

Cheers.
