Hosted Netsweeper

Anyone using hosted Netsweeper? Are you are able to provide any costs?

 

I'm looking at going it alone at a primary school (purchasing the line, filtering and installing the firewall internally) but need to know the cost of the filtering and they are a bit useless at answering my sales requests.

 

Also look at using a Unifi Security Gateway (unsure if it will be the pro or not), does anyone have any recommendations for a modem/router? It will be on a EoFTTC line.

I'd look into a UTM solution like Sophos XG or Palo Alto to do your routing/firewalling/filtering in school personally. We run Sophos XG appliances in our primaries.

Pricing on Sophos UTM and even Palo Alto (we got quotes for official rack mount appliances from resellers for major vendors) was very competitive. Smoothwall was outrageously expensive for less features. We're talking less than £1,500 over 3 years for Sophos UTM in a school (appliance, 3 year license for all features and support) - we ended up buying through Pugh.

Not sure about pricing but FYI it's CRAP! Half the categories don't work, when it comes to websites requiring authentication Netsweeper falls over and applies default web filtering. We're having to add URLs in multiple lists daily, the web interface is extremely slow and the block pages don't show the URL which was blocked so we're spending hours trawling through logs attempting to find which URL to add to the list. Dog turd! Buy a Lightspeed Rocket onsite and you'll never look back! Can't wait to get shot of hosted NS.
