Once you have had a look would post your findings here please? Would it be worth doing for existing techs already in the role?

I'm a network manager however looking at some of the modules I think that I may be able to benefit from it too. Especially the last couple of modules.

I intend to do it myself as well, even some of the stuff in the first course is likely stuff I've long forgotten and would act as a good refresher, and even then no doubt I'd learn a lot from doing it. As we've never had any external training, ever, it's a bit of a no-brainer for us at least just to get the certification and mark off having done some actual training.

As others have said I like the sound of some of the later chapters. It's been a while since I've been at uni so I've no doubt a lot of it would be useful to plug any holes in my knowledge. Especially with Google themselves apparently promoting it.

hardtailstar Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Sat down this evening and completed 'Week One' in about 90 minutes. Learnt a few things I'd forgotten and a few extra bits. There's questions on some of the videos and bits to read. It's been quite interesting so far. It says it'll take about 8 months but I think it'll take a lot less even if you don't know anything.

Each course can be done standalone which is handy and I can’t remember if it’s the same with Coursera specifically but the cost is not always applicable. In the old days many courses were free and if you look into it, still can be for pure learning. They just obscure that fact, and push trials on you. The benefit of paying gives you access to the tutor, other students, grading of assignments and a certificate at the end. Quite often you can get access to the materials as long as you want without paying. It’s worth doing to get the certificate, but for schools where they might not approve a lot or any cash, it’s worth checking to see if you can do it effectively ‘offline’. There should be options for ‘audit’ which let’s you have access for free. You could always pay at the end once material is completed.

Nearly all of us, if not actually all of us are guilty of forgoing best practice now and then for the sake of "easiest/simplest practice"; either because it's quicker or more convenient or you're keeping things simple to save learning something else or keep it simple for your peers. 1

Im looking at it as a positive and as another 'Professional' qualification. Most of it ive known but its been a nice refresher in parts. 1

Cheers Certificate is proof you completed the course and gradings etc. The course is a Google provision, so I think very good on the C.V. Also there is an option to add it to LinkedIn, I’m not sure how it appears, but that’s very useful. My last few jobs and opportunities have all come from LinkedIn.

Sorry they will need monthly proof they have paid for the service and just want to check there is an easy receipt to print off. There help says there is but you know what documentation is like, it can lag behind sometimes

Looking at it the email will probably be the same every month after the monthly subscription fee comes out of my bank account. 1
