PS Financials Costs

Hi Everyone,

 

We currently have PS Financials installed locally onsite with 5 licenses for the two parts of the software that we use. I have requested a quote for two extra licenses to use the software but the price that has been quoted seems ludicrous.

 

1) Annual maintenance will increase by £420 per license.

2) One off cost of £2,000 per license

 

This means that for two licences the year 1 cost will be £4840 if the Annual maintenance is added in year one, I have not checked this. Either way £2000 as a one off costs seems completely over the top to me.

 

Am I being unreasonable in thinking that this is far far too expensive ?!

Take a look at HCSS, they have a new finance/accounting module that is way better than FMS and seems like it might well be good enough for an academy. (We are not an academy so I can’t vouch for it in that capacity, but o have worked at one)

Why? It's public money, you can look up how much a school spends and on what (admittedly at a high level - but you could FOI for detail). The whole idea of the G-Cloud \ Digital Marketplace was clear pricing\terms. How do you know you've got a good deal if it wasn't transparent? The school down the road might have got it for half the price!!

I was trying to be a bit diplomatic as they pretty much lurk on here.

 

I know we didn’t get a good deal and a big FE near us pays less than us.

 

In my opinion symmetry is shocking our finance staff hate it.

Not direct experience, but a few schools within original group who ended up making their own MAT migrated from our centrally hosted / externally shared version to their own PS Cloud version.

The last I heard, it improved some bits of functionality (which may be more a case of the fact our PS installation was never properly configured / project managed / checked by PS!), but that some of the processes seem just as slow (e.g. portal etc)

 

We're seriously investigating non-PSF options and hoping that one ticks the box, but if it doesn't we may well end up going the cloud way as the cost difference isn't drastic and makes a whole less lot of hassle when we begin thinking about GDPR implications of being the data host / processor!

I have to say that I am thinking about so that the hassle is reduced dealing with almost every aspect of them is a diaster, our migrating from 2/4/6 was botched too.

HCSS looked impressive when I saw it at a show. Worth a look at I think although be interesting to see how SIMS Finance compares.
