Disease Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Bit of a cheek but I was wondering if people could post what their regular daily, weekly and monthly tasks are. I am just trying to build a picture for better processes here where we don't really have anything scheduled as such on a regular basis. Do some of you even have fixed tasks that you do on a daily weekly monthly basis or are you on a more reactionary ad-hoc system.

jthompson Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 We don't have a definitive list, but the following spring to mind: Half-termly: Projector filter cleaning, updating the "last physical check" date in the inventory records as we do them. I might stick an entry in our calendar to kick this off each time. Weekly: Check over the WSUS server for any updates that aren't auto-approved. Daily: I have a utility (PA WatchDISK) which scans our shared areas each morning and sends me an email alert if any folder has increased by 100MB or more. I can then go and check what's been added, and reduce the filesizes if appropriate. It's useful for keeping on top of camera dumps, etc. I also keep our Nagios and AV dashboards open all day in my browser, and keep half an eye on them. I do have a documented list of tasks that need to be performed at the start of each academic year. Things like updating groups and distribution lists in AD, rotating things for year groups, creating new users, stuff like that, plus a load of really easy to forget odds and ends, like an IIS log purge, etc. The list grows a bit each year, and I've found a documented list (with details about how do perform the tasks) has been invaluable, as things can get a bit stressy and it's too easy to forget things and lose track. I have that written up as a page in our documentation wiki. 1
