Yes, unless you empty the Bin. It is a bit fiddly with shared docs though, as the item goes to the Bin of the creator - who may have left the school by now!

I wouldn't want to run disaster recovery based on users pulling things back from their Bins within 30 days, though.

You can restore even if they empty the bin.

i mean from the google admin console not the user themselves.

go to an account, press the more button on their profile and click restore, select what and the date and it does it?

from my understanding, these paid services just seem to give a more granular restore right? whereas Google is a return the content to the state it was on x date? ive never had to use it to be honest

The reason we took Spanning is the friendly interface - you select a user, select a date and it shows you what their Drive looked on that date. Click the docs/folder you want to restore, select to restore to original location or somewhere else, and click Go. Unlike some other products, Spanning shows you ALL docs in their Drive, not just the ones they own; we looked at some other products were you could only restore a doc from the user who created it, which would make restoring files in shared folders next-to-impossible. Team Drives simplifies that, as I understand it, but there would still be lots of docs which have been shared outside of Team Drives.

doesnt google have 30 days of restore anyway?

I read a few forums (not just for G Suite) where ransomware had hit or the admin accounts had been compromised and those companies had a real bad time trying to get everything back. For total simplicity and peace of mind Spanning was a no brainier.
