3D Printer ANET A2+

MrwITch has an ANET A2+ and I would like to buy him something for it for Christmas.

TBH he has had endless trouble with the thing -but he is enjoying mucking about with it

 

I have no idea what else to get him so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know

(and no jokes about the fact that he can surely print his own accessories)

I would say a glass bed also. I use one with my Tevo Tarantula and it's such a quick and simple upgrade and make levelling the bed so much easier.

He has a glass bed already, sadly. It is an A2 btw. What about an auto leveller? Would that be useful?

 

Why does he need a hot end? (agian,.....I know it is tempting...)

Hi @witch you would have to change the firmware to support auto bed levelling. Changing the hot end to an e3d with an all metal heat break will allow you to print a range of filament as it can get to high temps, it can also help with the quality of the prints aswell.

 

what problems is your husband having with the A2

Oh goodness, you name it..he had huge issues with the filament not sticking down, sticking down too much, not flowing properly, flowing too fast/slow. not flowing evenly...

Is it hard to change the firmware? He is an enterprise software technical architect so if it is straightforward there shouldnt be a problem.

Maybe a hot end change is the answare

I would not do anything regarding firmware until he can print consistently.

 

If you can wait till this evening then I can get more info for you to help get consistent prints, its taken me 5 weeks with small changes here and there to get good results.

It sounds as though the printer needs to be calibrated. I had to spend an hour recalibrating my extrusion settings on the weekend as I changed the make of filament I was using as I was getting too much flow on some prints and then not enough. I wouldn't be put of altering the steps and other settings in the firmware however I would do some research into it first.

With a bowden setup which the a2 has make sure the PTFE tube that goes from the extruder is ok, sometimes the PTFE tube can be the issue for under extrusion because of friction between the tube and the filament.

 

Also make sure the hot end is correctly assembled as a gap from the nozzle to the threaded metal pipe can cause issues. Undo the nozzle slightly and turn the throat pip finger tight then heat the hot end up to 190 -200c then hold the heat block and tighten the nozzle to the throat pipe to remove any gap.

Can you link me to a definitive thing or thngs that will definitely work with his A2+

I would also like to buy an autobed leveler and would really like a link that definitely works with his printer.

Maybe some different filament too?
