We have a DFS share replicated over two servers, just recently we have noticed that folders in which Word or Excel files are stored are beginning to fill up with TMP files all with random 8-digit names, 3B0EE95E.tmp.

These files are present on both servers so do appear to be replicated over, but where are they coming from?

Does anyone have any suggestions? They never get deleted, so just build up.

My theory is that when an Office file is edited, it creates it's TMP file, which is replicated across to the other server. When Office is closed, the TMP on the original server gets deleted, but then the other server replicates its own one back across.

I'm very new to DFS, but does this sound feasible?
