But is this really all I need in a school?

 

Why have I been buying Office licenses?

 

Anyone using this, can you confirm it's as simple and legit as enter your school email and download the Office suite...?

Ambitious, but no.Your school also needs to have licensed the suite via Office365 so that it's available to download for your users (otherwise they just get Office Online I thought?)

You don't get the option of free licences for students and teachers unless your paying for your Microsoft licencing on the EES scheme. So it aint free to the school, and it aint free to students and teachers either as they have to pay £9.99 admin fee to get it. Mind you office 2016 for 9.99 is a pretty darn awesome deal!!

As I understand it, "Some schools" translates into "Schools who have a (paid for) E5 or better office 356 subscription."

 

It looks like you would also need the paid-for 365 to cover any sort of local installation. Or some other paid-for office licensing.

We used to offer the download version (as part of our EES entitlement) but when this came up for renewal it was simply too much for both the VLSC team and the O365 team to handle ("you are licensed for x FTE users, but you have y users?! How is this possible?!") so I let it lapse and just went back to the free entitlement.

I like to describe it as "No additional cost" as you only get this with your EES license. You domain name is linked to your EES so if they match it up when a user first requests it for your tenant, you get the Office 365 A1 Plus licenses added to your tenant (previously called Office 365 Education Plus)
