Extra Period on a Wednesday

Hi,

Does anyone know the best way to add an extra lesson just to the end of Wednesday for a review/homework type lesson that is not part of the model. I only know to add it to each day, blank the other days and then add an alternative curriculum to the wednesday. Main issue is that there are 1500 students to add to this and doing it one by way will probably take me til Christmas! Any suggestions please. Thankyou.

Hi, am assuming that you don't want this extra lesson to appear on student and teacher timetables but need it for registering the students who turn up to this extra lesson? If so, you could add a new subject and create a block in the model screen. Add the classes to the block and assign 0 lessons. You can create a derived block if you want to mix the classes up or set up blocks in each year group. Then assign staff in the Classes screen and send across to SIMS via SQL. The classes will then be available in the Curriculum Assignment by Scheme screen and the students can be assigned. These classes will not appear on student or staff timetables but can be found in Take Register if this is what you want to do.

Unless a class has some periods assigned to it, it will not be able to be scheduled - therefore not appear in the cycle and a register will not be present for any day/period of the week via the Take Register screen.

 

Assuming that you need the kids/staff to have it showing on their timetable and therefore have the option to be registered then you could add a new year into the NT6 Model Screen, called Hw as the example below, add a block of the subject (again Hw is used) and assign 1 period so that it can be scheduled at WedP6. I've added a group for each year in the block and named accordingly - assuming that there will be 5 groups. This can obviously be changed to reflect the number of homework groups taking place.

 

 

 

do not link the year to other NC years as a derived year if all students are not expected to attend a group. In SIMS Academic Management the required Homework students will need to be "added" into the Hw Year Base Band.

 

 

 

 

once in the band, locate the block and assign

 

 

the register will show on the teacher timeline etc as normal and show student memberships

 

 

NOTE: if all students should attend, then creating as a derived year will save a bit of time in Academic Management in SIMS where you would need to "add" the students to the new Hw Year Base Bands, the derived year will now apply the eligibility rules and expect a selection to be made at block level.

 

The block will still need to be staffed, scheduled and roomed accordingly prior to submission to SQL.

 

This will allow the optional bulk entry of kids to groups, show in timetables and allow recording of attendance to the sessions.

Just be aware that when it comes to reporting lesson attendance, it will treat these homework sessions as regular lessons where attendance is expected, and a no-show to the session will affect overall lesson attendance (if assigned to a group in AcMan)
